There are over 100 abbreviations
used by radio amateurs when making calls, here are a few common
ones.
CQ - 'Calling all stations',
or seek you. This is used in both telephony (voice) and Morse code
contacts.
CW - Continuous wave or more
commonly called Morse code.
RX - Receiver
TX - Transmitter
WX - Weather
YL - Young lady
XYL - Wife
OM - Old man, used for males
of any age
